Spain’s Carlos Health Institute reports that 5,232 deaths are linked to the heatwave from May 15 to August 30.
An estimated 2,147 deaths occurred in August, with those over 85 years old being most affected.
These deaths surpass the 2022 record of 4,789, which was a statistical estimate.
It is noteworthy that the summer of 2026 was exceptionally hot in Spain, with July being one of the hottest months.
