Islamabad: (RightNow) An increase of Rs 2.52 per unit in electricity prices is expected. This hike could impose an additional financial burden of billions on electricity consumers.

The Central Power Purchasing Agency has requested NEPRA to raise electricity prices. A hearing will be held today at NEPRA under the July fuel price adjustment.

The request cites a cost of Rs 50 per unit for diesel and Rs 54.47 per unit for imported coal. Similarly, the production cost for imported LNG is Rs 47.37 per unit.

After today’s hearing, NEPRA will issue a final notification regarding the increase in electricity prices. In June, there was also an increase of 75 paisa per unit.

It is noteworthy that in June 2026, fuel charges were Rs 8.4641 per unit, while reference fuel charges were Rs 7.7138 per unit. NEPRA issued a notification after data verification.
