Captain (Retd) Muhammad Mahmood appointed to health post after PIMS tragedy, raising questions.
Islamabad: (RightNow) Following the death of 14 newborns at PIMS Hospital, the Health Secretary has been suspended. Captain (Retd) Muhammad Mahmood has been given additional charge of National Health Services.
Muhammad Mahmood is currently serving as Secretary of Housing and Works. His appointment comes amid ongoing investigations into the hospital’s fire safety.
Mahmood has previously held various significant positions, including Managing Director of the Nandipur Power Project.
His name was also involved in the Rawalpindi Ring Road project controversy, where he faced allegations of irregularities but continued to be appointed to key positions.
It is noteworthy that a fire in the PIMS Hospital nursery resulted in the death of 14 newborns. The government has established a committee to investigate the tragedy.
