Karachi: (RightNow) It has been revealed that retired officers are relocating abroad and receiving pensions in foreign currency. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs informed Parliament that 33 senior officers have moved overseas and are receiving pensions in foreign currency.

According to documents, the Government of Pakistan pays these retired officers an annual amount of 342.1 million rupees, which is directly transferred in foreign currency. Economic experts have termed this revelation as a new debate on the financial dealings of the bureaucracy.

Economic experts state that paying retired officers residing abroad in foreign currency burdens the country’s foreign exchange reserves. They suggest that pension reforms should be reconsidered.

During the ongoing economic crisis, this revelation raises public questions about why the government is making payments in foreign currency, which increases financial burdens and causes issues.

It is noteworthy that other retired officers residing in various countries also receive pensions in local currency, but their complete details are not available with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
