Beijing: (RightNow) China has issued a strong response to the US announcement of new economic sanctions on Iran. China states it will take all necessary measures to protect its legitimate rights and interests.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian stated that China firmly opposes illegal and unilateral sanctions. China will take necessary steps to safeguard its cooperation and economic interests with Iran.

He further added that sanctions and economic pressure do not aid in resolving issues but rather escalate conflicts and tensions. These unilateral sanctions also harm the global economic and financial system.

It is noteworthy that the US has announced new sanctions to increase pressure on Iran, targeting several individuals, entities, and vessels. US Treasury Secretary Scott Besant described it as a stringent financial measure.

China is a major trading partner of Iran and a significant buyer of Iranian oil. This raises the possibility of increased economic tensions between Beijing and Washington due to the new US sanctions.
