Dubai: (RightNow) The United Arab Emirates has imposed a formal fee for playing music in cafes, hotels, and malls. Authorities state that from December, a licensing fee will be required for playing music at commercial venues.

The fee will apply not only to cafes, hotels, and malls but also to other commercial locations. The music license will be valid for one year and must be renewed annually.

Educational institutions, government entities, and non-commercial events will be exempt from the fee. Officials say this measure is to protect the copyright rights of singers.

Legal action will be taken against playing music without a music license. According to officials, the new system will ensure the protection of singers’ rights.

It is noteworthy that previously, no fee was imposed for playing music, but now a new system has been introduced.
