Punjab will celebrate Basant in February next year, adjusting for Ramadan.
Lahore: (RightNow) Punjab has decided to celebrate the Basant festival next year in February instead of January. The Home Department and district government have outlined the plan for the festival, which will be held in Lahore, deviating from tradition.
Sources reveal that the decision to hold Basant at the end of January is due to the onset of Ramadan. The final date will be announced after provincial government approval.
Kite flying regulations for Basant will be finalized soon. Permissions for kite making and flying will be granted shortly, considering last year’s preparations.
Basant is significant as it is part of Punjab’s culture, attracting large public participation and benefiting the local economy.
It is noteworthy that last year Basant was celebrated with great enthusiasm, but this year the date has been changed due to Ramadan.
