Peshawar: (RightNow) The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government is considering legislation to computerize doctors’ prescriptions and require the use of generic names instead of brand names. This decision will be made after consulting with the federal government to address the issue.

Pakistan People’s Party member Mehar Sultana presented a notice highlighting that current laws fail to prevent doctors from writing specific brand names. She suggested making it mandatory to write the generic name of the medicine.

Provincial Health Minister Khaliq-ur-Rehman stated that this matter falls under the federal government’s jurisdiction. The provincial government has decided to contact the federal authorities to enable legal changes.

This legislation is crucial to reduce public anxiety. Handwritten prescriptions are often illegible, causing difficulties for patients.

It is noteworthy that issues with the CT scan and MRI machines at Mardan Medical Complex were also discussed. The Health Minister informed that the CT scan machine is fixed, and the MRI will be operational within a week.
