Peshawar: (RightNow) The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a high alert in eight districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa due to the risk of glacier lake outbursts. This alert is prompted by rapidly melting glaciers and recent rainfall.

According to the authority, water flow in rivers, streams, and rainwater channels may increase to dangerous levels. This situation could lead to sudden flooding, posing a threat to the public.

PDMA has identified Chitral, Upper Dir, Lower Dir, Swat, Upper Kohistan, Lower Kohistan, and Mansehra as at-risk districts. There is a possibility of glacier lake outbursts and flooding in these areas.

All relevant deputy commissioners have been instructed to monitor sensitive locations, issue timely warnings, and ensure safety measures. Orders have also been given to ensure the availability of Rescue 1122 personnel and machinery.

It is important to note that recent rains in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have caused destruction, resulting in 14 fatalities. Tourists are advised to avoid unnecessary travel to Chitral, Dir, Swat, and Kohistan areas.
