Rawalpindi: (RightNow) A stormy rainfall in Rawalpindi has broken a 16-year record. Various areas recorded up to 230mm of rain. According to the PDMA spokesperson, New Katarian received the highest rainfall of 230mm, while Shamsabad recorded 203mm, Chaklala 206mm, and Golra 157mm.

The PDMA has issued alerts to residents near Nala Lai, advising precautionary measures. The PDMA control room is monitoring the situation 24/7.

Chief Water Engineer of Rawalpindi Cantonment Board, Muhammad Atiq, stated that the recent rains have broken a 16-year record, previously set in 2010. He noted that the cantonment areas received relatively less rain, while upstream areas of Nala Lai recorded more.

It is important to note that under the direction of the Cantonment Board’s Executive Officer, staff are on high alert, and no emergency situation has been reported yet. The cantonment has been divided into 6 sections with flood relief camps established.

It is noteworthy that the Cantonment Board has taken proactive measures to ensure safety and has set up flood relief camps in anticipation of any emergencies.
