Perth: (RightNow). A new study reveals that excess fat and weak muscles can increase the risk of type 2 diabetes. Researchers at Curtin University in Australia examined the health of 480,000 individuals over 14 years.

The study found that individuals with obesity and weak muscles had a higher risk of diabetes. Those with both obesity and weak muscles faced a 19% greater risk.

Experts state that type 2 diabetes can damage nerves, eyes, and kidneys. It also raises the risk of heart disease and cancer.

Lead researcher Zhong-Yang Guan noted that diabetes risk is linked not only to weight but also to muscle strength.

It is important to note that this study challenges the common belief that diabetes risk is solely related to body weight. Emphasizing muscle health is crucial.
