Islamabad: (RightNow) Pakistan’s Chashma-5 nuclear power plant will begin electricity production in 2028. The plant is set to provide 1200 megawatts of electricity.

An agreement has been signed between Pakistan and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). This agreement will strengthen Pakistan’s global nuclear energy commitments.

The ceremony was attended by the Chairman of the China Atomic Energy Authority. The agreement was signed by the Chairman of the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission and the Director General of the IAEA.

The Chashma-5 project will supply affordable and sustainable electricity to Pakistan’s national grid. This project will play a crucial role in meeting Pakistan’s energy needs.

It is noteworthy that in March 2026, the IAEA Board of Governors approved this agreement. Pakistan already has six nuclear power plants with a combined capacity of 3530 megawatts.
