Islamabad: (RightNow) A major change in Islamabad’s administrative structure is underway. A special committee has presented a draft of the new governance model to the Prime Minister.

Under the proposed model, Islamabad will have its own elected Chief Executive and Assembly. The Assembly will consist of 27 members, with 21 elected by public vote.

The new model will establish 27 administrative departments in Islamabad. Sectors like health, education, and environment will be managed by the local government.

These changes will enhance local representation in Islamabad, while law and master planning will remain with the federal government.

It is noteworthy that a committee, including Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal and other government officials, was formed to prepare Islamabad’s new administrative blueprint.
