Islamabad: (RightNow) During Shahbaz government’s 2.5-year tenure, citizens are forced to buy the most expensive petrol and diesel in the country’s history. Citizens are also bearing the heavy burden of petroleum levy.

According to a private TV channel, the government has collected Rs 3137 billion from citizens under petroleum levy. Diesel prices have surged to Rs 233 per liter, and petrol has become as expensive as Rs 178.66.

Government documents reveal that the current administration has collected Rs 3137 billion in levy. This burden has been borne by the public through increased petroleum product prices.

At the start of the government, high-speed diesel was Rs 287.33, which has now reached Rs 520.35. Petrol prices were Rs 279.75, now climbing to Rs 458.41.

It is noteworthy that in the fiscal year 2025-26, the government collected Rs 1567 billion in petroleum levy. Additionally, over Rs 50 billion was collected separately under carbon levy on petrol and diesel.
