Lahore: (RightNow) The Punjab Assembly has approved a resolution to ban social media use for children under 16. The resolution was presented by government member Sarah Ahmed.

The resolution states that protecting children’s physical, mental, and moral development is the state’s responsibility. It further mentions that inappropriate content on social media exposes children to mental stress and other risks.

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority is urged to implement an age verification system on social media platforms. Globally, countries like Australia, France, China, and the USA have such laws.

This resolution emphasizes the importance of legislation to ensure a safe future for children. The growing influence of social media poses a threat to children.

It is noteworthy that, based on laws in other countries, there is a recognized need for similar regulations for minors in Pakistan.
