Islamabad: (RightNow) A fire at PIMS Hospital resulted in the tragic death of 15 newborns, revealing failures in fire safety measures. Rescue sources reported that the hospital’s fire hoses lacked couplings, and there was no water at the fire point. Emergency exits were locked, preventing timely evacuation.
Rescue sources further stated that no doctors or staff were present in the incubation center at the time of the incident. The Prime Minister expressed sorrow over the incident and ordered an immediate investigation.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed regret over the fire incident at PIMS Hospital. He has instructed authorities to conduct a swift investigation to hold those responsible accountable.
It is important to note that on Wednesday morning, a fire broke out in the nursery of the gynecology ward at PIMS Hospital in Islamabad, resulting in the death of 15 newborns. The fire was caused by an air conditioning compressor explosion, which has since been extinguished, and cooling operations are ongoing.
An inquiry committee led by the Additional Deputy Commissioner has been formed to investigate the incident. The committee will determine the causes of the fire.
