Iran demands US action on Strait of Hormuz and compliance with the Islamabad Memorandum.
Tehran: (RightNow) Iran has presented a list of demands to the US for opening the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian Speaker and chief negotiator Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf handed over the list to the US.
Baqer Qalibaf also demanded full implementation of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding from the US. This memorandum expired yesterday.
Under the memorandum, the US and Iran agreed to halt military operations on all fronts, including Lebanon. Iran announced its withdrawal from pursuing nuclear weapons.
The US agreed to lift the Iranian naval blockade, and Iran agreed to keep the Strait of Hormuz open. The US also promised to lift economic sanctions and support Iran’s reconstruction.
It is noteworthy that the US expressed willingness to restore Iran’s frozen funds. Turkish President and US President Trump discussed bilateral relations over the phone.
