AJK Election Commission announces schedule for special seats polls on August 24, including women’s and other categories.
Muzaffarabad: (RightNow) The Azad Jammu and Kashmir Election Commission has announced the schedule for elections on 8 special seats in the Legislative Assembly, with polling set for August 24. These seats include 5 for women, and one each for religious scholars, overseas Kashmiris, and technocrats.
According to the Election Commission, candidates can submit their nomination papers on August 20 from 9 AM to 2 PM. The list of valid candidates will be released after scrutiny on the same day.
Appeals against the acceptance or rejection of nomination papers can be filed on August 21. The Election Commission will decide on these appeals by August 22. Candidates have until 2 PM on August 23 to withdraw their papers.
Polling will take place on August 24 from 10 AM to 1 PM at the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Hall, Block No. 12, Civil Secretariat Chattar Klass, Muzaffarabad. Names for women’s special seats are under consideration, while candidates for overseas and other seats have also emerged.
It is noteworthy that in the general elections of Azad Kashmir, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz emerged as the largest party with 24 seats. The completion of elections on special seats will fully constitute the Legislative Assembly, potentially strengthening PML-N’s position in forming the government.
