Tehran: (RightNow) Iran claims that 3 Iranian pilots, missing since a March 2 attack on a US base in Qatar, are detained in Qatar. This revelation was made publicly by Iranian officials for the first time.

Iranian military officers have appealed to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to investigate the pilots’ condition and assist in their release. Brigadier General Mohammad Baqerzadeh expressed concern and requested information about the pilots’ status in a letter.

The Brigadier General stated that 2 Iranian fighter jets were targeted by enemy air defense systems while returning from the attack on the US base in Qatar. The crew had to eject, resulting in one pilot’s martyrdom.

According to Iranian officials, Qatar has not respected prisoners’ rights under the Geneva Convention. Qatar has not allowed meetings or interviews with the detained pilots. Iran demands an investigation under war crimes provisions.

It is noteworthy that the Qatari Ministry of Defense stated their air force shot down the Iranian planes. Iran has appealed to international organizations for help in securing the pilots’ release.
