The US announces new sanctions on Iran, including an individual linked to Bank Melli. Iran condemns these actions as state terrorism.
Washington: (RightNow) The US has announced new sanctions on Iran, targeting an individual linked to Bank Melli and a company in Hong Kong. The aim is to restrict Iran’s global financial connections.
The US Treasury Department has added Reza Mohammad Taidi, an Iranian citizen based in Dubai, to the sanctions list. Taidi is the General Manager of Bank Melli’s Dubai branch. These sanctions follow the US Treasury Secretary’s announcement of economic actions against Iran’s global financial network.
US officials stated that Reza Mohammad Taidi acted on behalf of or for the benefit of Bank Melli. His name is now on the US Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control’s special list. Bank Melli is accused of being involved in financial dealings with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ Quds Force.
Iran has condemned these sanctions as state terrorism and a crime against humanity. The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson stated that US sanctions pose a threat to Iranian citizens’ health and employment and violate other countries’ sovereignty.
It is noteworthy that the US has previously imposed several sanctions targeting Iran’s financial connections, aiming to limit Iran’s global economic relations.
