Islamabad: (RightNow) Pakistan indicates an extension of its defense pact with Saudi Arabia and Turkey. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Tahir Hassan Andrabi stated in a weekly briefing that the Mecca Summit on August 7 was significant. Pakistan played a crucial role in the Mecca Agreement, reflecting progress in the brotherly relations among the three nations.

The spokesperson mentioned that the Mecca Agreement is not limited to just three countries but aims to ensure regional and global security. Efforts for collective security will continue under this agreement.

He further added that the Mecca Agreement is defensive in nature, aiming for peace and security. An attack on one country will be considered an attack on all.

The Foreign Ministry spokesperson stated that the agreement is open, and it is not yet clear which countries might join in the future. Pakistan is ready to operationalize the naval alliance agreement.

It is noteworthy that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan have signed the defense agreement. The three countries possess 6,046 tanks and 344 naval assets, with a combined annual defense budget of $124.4 billion.
