Lahore: (RightNow) Heavy rains in Punjab have caused significant destruction, resulting in 8 deaths and 37 injuries. Rescue officials report incidents of roof and wall collapses and electrocutions.
In Gujranwala, 3 people died and 14 were injured in 8 separate incidents due to rain. In Kamoke, a child drowned in rainwater. In Pakpattan, 2 people died when a mud house roof collapsed.
In Kot Khadim Ali Shah, Sahiwal, a woman died due to a roof collapse. In Lahore, 4 were injured from a roof collapse, while 8 were injured in Mandi Bahauddin. Landslides occurred in Murree and Kahuta.
According to PDMA, the second spell of monsoon rains is expected to continue. More rains in upper areas may increase river water flow.
It is noteworthy that there is a medium-level flood at Khanki on the Chenab River. Citizens are advised to stay away from riverbanks and low-lying areas. The spokesperson also reported flooding in the Indus River.
