South China Sea: (RightNow) In the disputed area of the South China Sea, Chinese and Philippine military forces clashed. During the confrontation, both countries accused each other of aggression.
According to the Philippines, one of its naval personnel was injured in the head during the clash. Chinese coast guard personnel allegedly targeted the Filipino officer with a wooden stick near Second Thomas Shoal.
The Armed Forces of the Philippines reported that a Chinese coast guard vessel approached their grounded ship and took photographs. When Filipino boats attempted to drive the Chinese vessel away, the Chinese personnel responded violently.
China stated that their personnel were on a routine patrol when Philippine boats rapidly approached them. Chinese troops took necessary measures to manage the situation.
