Punjab enforces Section 144, banning public gatherings due to terror threats.
Lahore: (RightNow) Section 144 is imposed in Punjab from October 6 to 15. Gatherings of 5 or more people, rallies, and protests are banned under this order.
According to the Punjab Home Department notification, carrying and displaying weapons in public places is also prohibited. Wedding ceremonies and religious gatherings are exempted.
Law enforcement and intelligence agencies are taking measures considering terrorism threats. Reports suggest public gatherings could be potential targets.
The ban aims to protect public life and property, which is the government’s top priority. Intelligence reports indicate terrorist organizations may target large gatherings.
It is noteworthy that this restriction is imposed under Section 144(6) of the Criminal Procedure Code 1898. Immediate actions for public safety are requested.
