Islamabad: (RightNow) Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has contacted Jamaat-e-Islami leader Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman via telephone. He requested Jamaat-e-Islami to postpone their protest march for a few days.

The Prime Minister expressed his readiness for fruitful discussions on the petroleum levy. He promised to announce a better relief package for the public after meeting with the Jamaat-e-Islami leader upon his return.

Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman stated that the protest will continue until the levy is abolished. He clarified that protests against the levy have been ongoing for the past one and a half months. The party will consult on a brief pause in the long march.

Currently, Jamaat-e-Islami’s train march has reached Multan. The leader addressed a rally in Multan, urging the removal of the ‘extortion tax’ on petrol.

It is noteworthy that Jamaat-e-Islami initiated protests against the petroleum levy. Their demand is to abolish the ‘extortion tax’ on petrol.
