Peshawar: (RightNow) The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has prepared a draft for amendments to the Police Act. Police officials have expressed concerns over these amendments and informed the relevant authorities of their objections.

According to official sources, the draft includes proposals to transfer some key police powers to the Home Department. Police officials have raised objections to these proposals.

The draft suggests abolishing Dispute Resolution Councils and recommends giving the authority for DSP appointments and transfers to the Home Department.

Police officials argue that administrative powers are related to the professional structure of the police. They have also objected to transferring financial authority to the Home Department.

It is noteworthy that a meeting of the Police Policy Board regarding the proposed amendments will be held under the Home Department. This meeting will review the draft and the police’s concerns.
