Lahore: (RightNow) The Punjab government has introduced a new requirement for vehicle owners to obtain an annual fitness certificate. According to this law, private vehicles must undergo a fitness test every year.

In Punjab, using a vehicle without a fitness certificate will first result in a fine, and continued violations may lead to vehicle confiscation. This law applies to all private vehicles.

There are only 13 centers available for fitness testing of millions of vehicles in the province, which may cause difficulties for citizens in obtaining certificates. The shortage of fitness centers could pose challenges for residents.

This law will impose an additional financial burden on vehicle owners, as the government has set the fitness certificate fee between 500 and 2,000 rupees. This fee may put extra pressure on vehicle owners’ budgets.

It is noteworthy that there was no mandatory law for vehicle fitness testing before, but the government has taken this step considering public safety.
