New York: (RightNow) A campaign to change the world map has begun at the United Nations. Led by Africa, this initiative aims to depict countries in accurate proportions.

The UN General Assembly is voting on adopting the Equal Earth World Map. This map accurately represents the true size of countries and continents.

Experts state that it’s impossible to perfectly transfer the Earth’s round surface onto a flat map, but this map attempts to represent areas accurately.

This move is crucial to dispel misconceptions about Africa. Africa’s area is 14 times larger than Greenland, yet current maps show them nearly equal.

It is noteworthy that the Mercator Projection was introduced in 1569 for sailors’ navigation. The Equal Earth map could replace it to accurately represent areas.
