New York: (RightNow) The United Nations Secretary-General has expressed concern over the attack on a wedding in Iran. Spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric stated that the Secretary-General is deeply concerned about civilian casualties. Attacks on civilians are unacceptable.

The UN spokesperson urged all parties to adhere to their responsibilities under international humanitarian law during a press briefing. The Secretary-General emphasized avoiding actions and statements that escalate tensions.

The Secretary-General stated that there is no military solution to this crisis. He identified diplomacy as the only path forward. António Guterres called for immediate negotiations among all parties.

It is notable that a few days ago, the UN Secretary-General met with Iran’s President in Kyrgyzstan. The Iranian Red Crescent Society condemned the attacks, reporting 4 deaths and 67 injuries.

The attack occurred in the Iranian region of Sirik, where a wedding was taking place. According to the Red Crescent, some of the injured are in critical condition.
