A study finds that children of long-lived parents have reduced risks of heart disease and high blood pressure.
Islamabad: (RightNow) A new study reveals that parental longevity positively affects children’s health. Particularly, children of parents who live to 100 years or more tend to be healthier.
According to the study, families with long-lived parents see a 43% reduced risk of midlife mortality in their children. Additionally, the risk of heart disease decreases by 33% and high blood pressure by 32%.
Published in JAMA Network, the study included data from 4,030 individuals. Among them, 2,319 had parents aged 100 years or older, while the rest had parents with shorter lifespans.
The study aimed to determine if longevity is hereditary. It concluded that while parental longevity doesn’t guarantee longer life for children, family habits play a significant role.
It is noteworthy that despite parental longevity, the risk of cancer in children is not significantly reduced, although the risk of stroke is somewhat lower.
