Karachi: (RightNow) Sindh Health Minister Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho states that there is a long-standing shortage of nurses in Sindh. Nurses often migrate abroad, leading to local shortages.

Dr. Azra mentioned that efforts are underway to improve healthcare through policy and legislation. Discussions with the Asian Bank are ongoing to increase the number of nurses.

She added that a joint admission policy for nursing colleges is being introduced. Approximately 5,000 nurses graduate annually, with a target to increase this to 46,000.

Dr. Azra revealed that two nursing centers are being established under a pilot project. Recruitment has been approved at Jinnah Hospital and the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases.

It is noteworthy that the Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation has been expanded. A new block has been constructed at the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases, and vascular surgery has commenced at the trauma center.
