Muzaffarabad: (RightNow) Barrister Iftikhar Gilani of PML-N has been elected as the 17th Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir. The announcement was made by the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly during the results for the Leader of the House.

Barrister Iftikhar Gilani secured 30 votes, while Sardar Mukhtar Ahmed Khan of the People’s Party received 14 votes. PML-N leader Shah Ghulam Qadir was absent from the session.

Apart from the Speaker, 44 members of the assembly cast their votes. This election is considered a significant political victory for PML-N.

It is noteworthy that Iftikhar Gilani was elected on a technocrat seat in the recent elections. His success reflects the political influence of PML-N.

It should be noted that Barrister Iftikhar Gilani was first elected as a member of the Azad Kashmir Legislative Assembly in 2011 and has also served as the Minister of Education.
