Islamabad: (RightNow) The Capital Development Authority has released an initial report on the fire at PIMS Hospital. The report reveals inadequate fire safety measures in the hospital’s nursery.

According to the report, the fire was reported at 6:54 AM on August 26, and fire teams arrived within 6 minutes. Heavy smoke was reported from the nursery.

The CDA report suggests a short circuit or plug overload as the possible cause of the fire, while investigations continue. Six fire tenders and six ambulances were involved in the rescue operations.

It was revealed that emergency exits were blocked or obstructed, and the hospital’s security staff caused hindrances. Nineteen people were rescued, while seven children lost their lives.

It is noteworthy that the Prime Minister has called an emergency meeting on the incident and removed the Federal Health Secretary from the position. A committee will compile a report within 24 hours.
