Polling Underway for Reserved Seats in Azad Kashmir Assembly

Polling is ongoing for reserved seats in Azad Kashmir Assembly, with intense competition for women’s and technocrats’ seats.

Muzaffarabad: (RightNow) Polling is underway for reserved seats in the Azad Kashmir Legislative Assembly. The assembly session will convene at 2 PM for the oath-taking of newly elected members.

For the reserved women’s seats, 6 candidates are contesting for 5 positions. The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has 4 candidates, while the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has 2 candidates vying for these seats.

For the technocrat seat, PML-N’s Barrister Iftikhar Gilani is competing against PPP’s Sahibzada Zulfiqar. For the Ulema and Mashaikh seat, PML-N’s Mazhar Saeed and PPP’s Hafiz Tariq are in contention.

The Election Commission spokesperson stated that PML-N’s Abdul Rehman Arain has been elected unopposed for the overseas Kashmiris’ seat, as no other candidate submitted nomination papers.

It is noteworthy that after the polling for reserved seats, the Azad Kashmir Legislative Assembly session will be held. Newly elected members will take their oaths, and the schedule for the Speaker and Deputy Speaker elections is expected to be announced.
