Pakistan grants a 15-year sales tax exemption on imports to all airlines, including PIA, effective from the next budget.
Islamabad: (RightNow) The National Assembly’s Privatization Committee has decided to grant a 15-year sales tax exemption on imported goods to all airlines, including PIA. This decision will be effective from the next budget.
During the meeting chaired by Dr. Farooq Sattar, officials from the Privatization Commission informed that the decision was made based on recommendations from the National Assembly’s Finance Committee. The exemption includes all airlines, including PIA.
The meeting also discussed the privatization of the Agricultural Development Bank. Officials stated that ZTBL was added to the privatization list in 2024, and its transaction plan is expected to be approved this month.
Plans for the privatization of DISCOs were also explained. It was stated that FESCO, IESCO, and MEPCO will be privatized in the first phase. Various companies have shown interest, and bidding will take place in December 2026.
It is noteworthy that the petroleum levy has been identified as an obstacle to economic growth. The committee chairman emphasized the need for a decisive action on this matter.
