Islamabad: (RightNow) The Pakistan Sugar Mills Association has requested government approval to export sugar. The association has sent letters to the Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of Food Security.

The letters request permission to export 585,000 tons of surplus sugar. As of July 15, 2026, the country has a stock of 3.4 million metric tons of sugar.

Government officials have been informed that the country’s monthly sugar consumption is 567,000 metric tons. At the start of the crushing season, a stock of 1.158 million tons will be available.

The letter mentions that the next crushing season is expected to produce 8 million metric tons of sugar. Sugarcane farmers are uncertain as the planting season approaches in September.

It is noteworthy that the Sugar Mills Association requests export permission annually to benefit from selling surplus sugar.
