Jharkhand: (RightNow) A unique football tournament was held in a tribal village in the Indian state of Jharkhand during the FIFA World Cup 2026. In this tournament, winning teams were awarded goats instead of traditional trophies.

The tournament took place from July 14 to 17, featuring teams from 64 villages. The winning team in the final received 15,000 rupees and three goats, while the runner-up team was awarded 12,000 rupees and two goats.

According to the organizers, the tournament was conducted following FIFA rules, but local traditions allowed for 9 players instead of 11. At least 6 players must be from the same village, and the offside rule does not apply.

In the local tribe, goats hold cultural significance and are considered essential for celebrations. Winning teams receive goats to celebrate their success with the community.
