Ranchi: (RightNow) Indian four-time world gold medalist Amardeep Kumar is forced to drive a taxi and sell vegetables due to financial difficulties. Despite repeated applications for government aid or a public job, he has received no positive response.

The 29-year-old from Jharkhand began his sports career at 13 and gained prominence in throwball on the global stage. He won his first world gold medal in Malaysia in 2015 and achieved other successes as well.

Due to the lack of financial support, Amardeep took loans to participate in tournaments, which he is now repaying by driving a taxi and selling vegetables. His financial situation has not improved recently.

His story highlights the importance of government support for successful athletes. While athletes from other states have secured jobs, Amardeep’s applications remain pending.

It is noteworthy that Amardeep won gold medals in the South Asian Championships in Kathmandu in 2017, Bengaluru in 2019, and Ranchi in 2026.
