Paris: (RightNow) The French Parliament has approved a bill granting terminally ill adults the right to die. Under this bill, patients meeting specific conditions can be provided with life-ending medication.

The bill specifically targets individuals who are French citizens or legal residents in the final stages of a terminal illness. If the patient is capable, they can self-administer the medication; otherwise, it will be administered by a doctor or nurse.

This law applies only to adult French citizens with terminal and incurable illnesses. The bill received 291 votes in favor and 241 against in Parliament.

The bill’s approval is contingent on the French Constitutional Council, which will formalize the law. If approved, France will join countries where assisted dying is legal.

It is noteworthy that the Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, and Canada have already recognized this law, which is a significant issue in human rights discussions.
