Lahore: (Right Now News) The Punjab government has approved a 175% increase in domicile fees. Alongside, the issuance system will be fully digitized, with a notification already issued.

Under the new system, the domicile fee has been increased from 200 to 550 rupees. This includes a 200 rupee base fee, 300 rupees for an affidavit, and a 50 rupee service charge. 500 rupees will go to the government treasury, while 50 rupees will be allocated to the Punjab Information Technology Board.

The government has decided to make the domicile acquisition process completely digital and paperless. Citizens can apply online, pay fees through e-Pay Punjab, and receive their domicile via courier.

A mobile app will enable domicile application and fee payment. A digital verification system similar to NADRA will be implemented, reducing the issuance time to 2-3 days.

It is noteworthy that the finance department has raised concerns about the public’s ability to bear the increased fees. Critics argue that the online facility imposes a financial burden on citizens, while officials claim it ensures transparency and faster service.
