Washington: (Right Now News) The United States has instructed its embassies worldwide to launch campaigns against foreign propaganda. This directive was issued in a diplomatic cable signed by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

The cable outlines five major objectives, including countering opposing narratives and increasing access to information. It also emphasizes amplifying pro-American local voices and presenting America’s stance more effectively.

The directive advises U.S. diplomatic offices to coordinate with the military’s Military Information Support Operations (MISO). This is an unusual move as public diplomacy is generally not linked with military psychological operations.

The cable highlights Elon Musk’s social platform X’s Community Notes feature as a modern tool for public engagement. Meanwhile, the European Commission fined X for violating the Digital Services Act.

It is noteworthy that this directive comes at a time when the U.S. is in a tense situation with Iran and has been concerned about Russian and Chinese influence campaigns.
