Pakistan may receive a $107 billion loan from the World Bank for energy projects, enhancing the power sector.
Islamabad: (Right Now News) Pakistan is likely to receive a new loan of $107 billion from the World Bank. This amount will be spent on energy projects.
According to documents, the Asian Infrastructure Bank and the Islamic Development Bank will also provide assistance for the project. The World Bank has identified issues such as low bill collection, system losses, and transmission obstacles in Pakistan.
The World Bank states that Pakistan’s power sector faces major issues, including electricity theft. The total value of the power sector project is $700 million. It includes a major 500 kV transmission line from Matiari to Rahim Yar Khan.
The project is part of a 10-year program from 2026 to 2035. Improvements in the electricity system, battery storage, and new transmission lines are included. Technical assistance will also be provided for reforms in NTDC.
It should be noted that the World Bank has emphasized making electricity supply more reliable in Pakistan and promoting private sector involvement. The need to improve governance in energy institutions has also been highlighted.
