Tehran: (RightNow) Iran’s Revolutionary Guards claim to have destroyed a US MQ-1 drone in the eastern part of the Strait of Hormuz. This incident occurred as the US Vice President sent a letter to Iran’s Mohsen Rezaei for negotiations.

According to the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, the drone was targeted using an advanced air defense system. This marks the 14th MQ-1 drone Iran claims to have destroyed.

The Iranian news agency reports the drone was targeted off the coast of Sirik in southern Iran’s Hormozgan province. Iran has announced control over the Strait of Hormuz.

The Strait of Hormuz is crucial for global oil transportation. Iran has warned ships against using unauthorized maritime routes.

It is noteworthy that Pakistan and Qatar attempted to mediate between the US and Iran to end the conflict. A memorandum of understanding was signed in Islamabad in June.
