Washington: (RightNow) US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has dismissed Lieutenant General Brett Sylvia, a senior Pentagon military officer. This action comes amid President Donald Trump’s potential military plans against Iran.

A Department of Defense official stated that the reason for Brett Sylvia’s dismissal was not disclosed. No new officer has been appointed to replace him. Sylvia was the head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff’s strategic division.

This is the second instance under Pete Hegseth’s tenure where a senior general has been removed. Previously, General Joseph McGee was forced into retirement. The joint military leadership has thanked Sylvia for his services.

President Trump has indicated further military actions against Iran. The US is increasing its military presence in the Middle East, raising concerns about escalating tensions in the region.

It should be noted that under Pete Hegseth’s leadership, several senior military officials have been removed. Hegseth has expressed a commitment to reducing the number of military officers, aiming to complete this by 2027.
