Washington: (RightNow) US President Donald Trump has offered assistance to Russia following suspected cases of pneumonic plague in Siberia. The World Health Organization states that the health risk to the general population currently appears low.

President Trump mentioned that the US is closely monitoring the situation and is ready to assist Russia if needed. He noted that he has not yet discussed the matter with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also stated that the situation does not pose an immediate threat. He emphasized the importance of attention and monitoring. The World Health Organization confirmed that unofficial information suggests no immediate threat to the general public.

In Siberia, following the suspected death of a research institute employee, authorities have quarantined the hospital. Efforts are underway to trace individuals who came into contact with the affected person.

It is important to note that pneumonic plague is a serious disease caused by the bacterium ‘Yersinia pestis’. Without timely treatment, the disease can be fatal.
