Islamabad: (RightNow) The federal government has paid Rs 2.935 trillion to Independent Power Producers (IPPs) over the past 11 months of the last fiscal year. These payments were made under energy and capacity payments.

According to a report presented in Parliament, the Ministry of Energy paid Rs 1.168 trillion for energy payments and Rs 1.565 trillion for capacity payments to IPPs during this period.

Officials from the Ministry of Energy stated that these payments were made to ensure the sustainability of energy. The government aims to increase investment in the energy sector.
