Australia: (RightNow) Scientists at Flinders University in Australia have developed a new battery that can fully charge in just three minutes. This battery is based on zinc iodine technology and has a lifespan of 60 thousand charge cycles.

Researchers claim this battery can remain effective for 164 years, while current smartphone batteries typically last 1 to 2 years. Unlike existing lithium-ion batteries, this battery does not pose a risk of overheating.

Experts from Flinders University have stated that this battery is not yet available for common smartphones. Further improvements are needed before it can be marketed. Its low cost and long life could benefit consumers.

The battery is based on cyclodextrin polymer, which is also used in food, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals. It can charge atoms capable of holding an electric charge.

Currently, most smartphones use lithium-ion batteries, which have a risk of overheating, reducing their lifespan.
