Vienna: (RightNow) Researchers at the University of Vienna have scanned dogs’ brains and shown them images of various human faces. The study found that dogs’ brains exhibit specific activity when viewing happy faces.

The research involved MRI scans of eight dogs, including Border Collies, Labradors, and Golden Retrievers. These dogs were shown images of unfamiliar and happy faces, and their brain activity was recorded.

According to the study, dogs’ brains showed increased activity in areas related to thinking and positive experiences when viewing happy faces. Notably, significant activity was observed in the temporal cortex and caudate nucleus.

This research proves that dogs can understand human emotions, a social skill developed over thousands of years of interaction with humans.

It is important to note that dogs attempt to understand human emotions not only through facial expressions but also through voice, body movements, and scent, which are crucial cues for them.
