An explosion near an oil tanker off Oman’s coast raises maritime security concerns, with UK authorities investigating.
Oman: (RightNow) An explosion occurred near an oil tanker off the coast of Oman, heightening concerns about maritime security in the region. The UK Maritime Trade Operations confirmed that a commercial ship reported a loud explosion and a large splash in the sea. The incident took place approximately 39 kilometers northeast of Khasab, near the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
Initial reports indicate the explosion occurred close to the tanker, but the ship was not damaged, and no crew injuries were reported. The UK MTO stated that investigations into the incident have begun. It remains unclear what caused the explosion or who might be responsible.
Authorities have advised all commercial ships traveling through the Strait of Hormuz to exercise caution. Any suspicious activity or threats should be immediately reported to the authorities. This incident occurs amid ongoing tensions between the US and Iran in the Middle East.
It is important to note that the Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most crucial maritime routes, through which large quantities of crude oil and natural gas pass daily.
