The World Bank warns Middle East tensions may escalate food crisis risk, impacting global prices.
Islamabad: (RightNow) The World Bank warns that rising tensions in the Middle East may disrupt energy supplies. This could lead to an increase in prices of food and other commodities.
According to the report, global commodity prices are expected to rise by 23% this year. Energy prices may increase by up to 32%. The average price of Brent crude oil is forecasted to be $92 per barrel.
The World Bank states that food prices are expected to rise by more than 10% in 2026. Disruptions in grain supply due to the Russia-Ukraine war are among the key reasons.
It is important to note that global food security and economic growth could be affected by these price increases. This situation could lead to a food crisis similar to the early 2010s.
The World Bank report indicates that $8.7 billion in aid has been provided to 25 countries affected by the Middle East conflict. The institution aims to protect poor nations.
